FARNHAM COMMON JUNIOR SCHOOL - HISTORY

Farnham Common County Primary School opened its doors on 9th May 1957. Head Teacher Aubrey Bass admitted one hundred and twelve children into two Infant and two Junior classes. This first collection of children transferred to the new site from Hollybush Church of England School and its Hedgerley Annex and from East Burnham Church of England School. Shortly afterwards thirty-nine more children were admitted to the school, twenty-six of whom came from Farnham Royal Church of England School. The school was officially opened on Saturday, 14th December 1957.

Aubrey Bass remained the Head until July 1962 when he moved on to become a lecturer at Newland Park Teacher Training College. Mrs. Catherine Bevan became Acting Head for one term prior to the appointment of Brian Little, who began his duties as Head Teacher on 8th January 1963.

In February 1975 the Infant School was opened and the younger children moved across to the other side of the Beaconsfield Road. The school became a Middle School for the ensuing years.

In March 1986 Brian Little said farewell to the school at his final assembly. His last entry in the school logbook wished his successor well and "I am fortunate to have been the Head here for so long, with so many happy memories. I've learnt a lot."

On 14th April 1986 the schools third permanent Head Teacher, Mr. Malcolm Paice began his duties. He is still the Head Teacher at the school today.

In September 1998 the school became a Junior School, catering for Years 3 to 6, Key Stage Two of the National Curriculum. Today it remains a two-form entry Junior School with a roll of just over two hundred and thirty pupils.
